St Benedict Medal – £14.99
Includes ball chain Blessed and touched to a relic of St Benedict
This medal of St Benedict is offered as a simple yet powerful sacramental, rooted in centuries of Christian tradition. Known for its association with protection, healing, and spiritual strength, the St Benedict Medal bears sacred symbols and prayers that call upon God’s grace through the intercession of St Benedict.
Each medal is touched to a relic of St Benedict and blessed by a bishop (with holy oil) using the traditional Rite of Blessing for St Benedict Medals. This makes it a third-class relic—offered freely, without charge, as part of the Church’s ministry. The blessing and relic-touching are carried out by a Camaldolese Benedictine, in a spirit of prayer and service.
The price of £14.99 covers only the medal and chain. The spiritual preparation—the blessing and relic-touching—is a gift, not a transaction. We offer it with reverence and gratitude, trusting that those who receive the medal will be drawn closer to Christ through the witness of St Benedict.
Whether worn, carried, or placed in the home, this medal is a quiet companion in times of trial and a reminder of God’s presence and protection.
The St Benedict Medal is one of the most revered sacramentals in the Catholic tradition, rich in symbolism and spiritual depth. Rooted in the legacy of St Benedict of Nursia—founder of Western monasticism and author of the Rule of St Benedict—the medal is worn by many as a sign of faith, protection, and spiritual strength.
At the heart of the medal is the cross, representing Christ’s victory over sin and death. Surrounding it are Latin inscriptions drawn from ancient prayers of exorcism and blessing. These include phrases such as Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti (“The Cross of the Holy Father Benedict”) and Vade retro Satana (“Begone, Satan”), which express the wearer’s trust in God’s power to guard against evil and temptation.
On the reverse side, the image of St Benedict holding the Holy Rule and a cross reminds the faithful of his life of prayer, humility, and obedience. The cup and raven—symbols from legends of his life—represent divine protection and the triumph of grace over harm.
